A two-day workshop on Role of Youths in Peace Building began at Lamyanba Shanglen in Imphal on Monday. Over 100 youths from across the state have participated in the workshop.

Speaking on the occasion, consumer affairs and public distribution minister Karam Shyam emphasized the need for knowing  duties as citizens of the country and an effective platform for streamlining the mindset of the politicians, administrators, youths, voluntary organisations and the public in a common direction with trust to avoid chaos and conflicts in our society.

“Youths should try to create a unique identity for themselves in the society by developing good behaviour and habits apart from honing themselves with the non-textual practical skills of life,” he said.

Drawing the attention of the gathering on the significance of developing good thoughts and wisdom by reading good books and also on putting their thoughts into actions to become future pillars of the society, he said the proper education with knowledge is essential to carry out various activities beneficial to the society and not just merely to get white-collared jobs.

“A person who knows the importance of the 3 time realms — past, present and future and makes proper use of it will surely become successful in life. Youths should keep good company in the midst of strong peer pressure and other societal influences and perform their respective responsibilities dutifully”, he observed.

Giving example of his continuous learning from his mother in spite of his B tech degree he received in 1980s and 40 years of social service, the Minister tried to convince the youths present in the gathering not to be over-confident. He urged them to keep learning lessons at different stages of their lives even from their elders who already had more experiences than them to be good citizens of a civilized society.

The function was attended by Sanasam Bira Singh, MLA Kumbi constituency and N Inaocha Singh, president of Kasturba Gandhi Institute for Development, Manipur.
