Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday asked the officers-in-charge (OCs) of the police stations across the state to go to the nearest hospitals for health check-ups every 15 days.

Chief minister Sarma made the directive to the OCs during a conference of the officers-in-charge of police stations of Assam at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

The conference was held under the chairmanship of chief minister Sarma.

While addressing the OCs, the chief minister made several announcements.

He said the Assam government would provide one four-wheeler to each of the OCs and if there is any problem in travelling by vehicle, one bike would be given so that the police station can function smoothly.

The chief minister announced that the state government would provide money to the police stations for sources.

He also said an amount of Rs 2.5 lakh would also be provided to each of the police stations.

Sarma said funds would be provided to those police stations for building quarters where lands are available for the same.

He said the police stations, where there is no generator facility, would be given generators.

The chief minister asked to stop taking bribes and asked the OCs to provide police verification reports within a short period.

He asked the OCs to give more focus on rape, murder, arms and drugs cases and make arrangements for filing chargesheets as soon as possible.

He said the OCs should make all sorts of initiatives so that the forensic reports are received on time and maintain good coordination with the respective SPs and DSPs.

The chief minister said no case of cattle theft should happen in the state.

The conference has been termed as “special & historic” by Assam director general of police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.

“The conference is officially underway. This is a special & historic day for all of us in @assampolice, more so for the young’uns- The OCs. I am sure after this event, they will be even more committed and motivated to serve,” DGP Mahanata tweeted on Monday at 1.46 pm.
