Leaders of the Indigenous People Front of Tripura (IPFT), BJP’s ally in Tripura, called on national president of the saffron party – JP Nadda in New Delhi late on Wednesday evening.

The IPFT leaders were summoned by BJP national president JP Nadda, following “massive erosion” of support base of the saffron party and the IPFT in Tripura, especially in the tribal belt.

A four-member IPFT delegation, including Tripura tribal welfare minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia, met BJP national president JP Nadda at his official residence in New Delhi.

The IPFT delegation also submitted a memorandum to JP Nadda.

The IPFT delegation engaged in a 45-minute-long meeting with JP Nadda and held discussions on High-Power Modality Committee constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in 2018.

They also discussed empowerment of TTAADC by passing the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill, formation of Tripura Territorial Council, allowing roman script for Kokborok language and Special Recruitment Drive for filling up vacancies reserved for ST and SC category in various departments.

This meeting comes at a time when speculations are high that several BJP leaders are mulling to join the Trinamool Congress (TMC), which is desperately trying to revive the party in Tripura, especially after its emphatic victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections.
