Mizoram’s COVID-19 count crossed a 15,000 mark on Sunday as 346 more people have tested positive for the infection, an official said.

The fresh cases detected from 3,866 samples tested on Saturday, put the single-day infection rate at 8.94 per cent, he said.

With 154 new infections, this time Mizoram’s southernmost Lawngtlai district took the place of Aizawl district in registering the highest Covid-19 cases.

According to the official, active cases search was conducted at a remote Karlui village in Lawngtlai district on June 10 and June 11 and the results could not be given instantly but updated on Sunday due to poor internet connectivity.

Aizawl district reported 130 fresh cases, Lunglei district (22), Siaha district (20), Kolasib and Champhai districts (7) each, Saitual district (3), Serchhip district (2) and Mamit district report one fresh case, he said.

More than 59 children were among the newly infected people, he said.

One patient has a travel history, while the remaining 345 were found to have locally contracted the infection, he said.

Of the 346 patients, 142 were confirmed to have developed symptoms of Covid-19, while 196 are asymptomatic and reports of 8  patients whether or not they are symptomatic are yet to be received, the official added.

The state’s total COVID-19 count stands at 15,267, of which 3,660 are active.

A total of 11,545 people have recovered from the infection, including 187 on Saturday.

The state has tested 4,31,807 samples for COVID-19 till date.

According to State immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi, a total of 2,85,982 people have been inoculated till Saturday, of which 53,226  people have received both doses of the vaccine.
