The Tripura police has registered a total of 24 cases of assaults on journalists in different parts of the state till June 5 this year.
While seven of these 24 attacks took place this year, 17 took place last year.
The assistant inspector-general of police (law and order), Subrata Chakraborty said that reports have appeared in certain sections of the media over the increasing incidents of violence against journalists and the failure of the police to take action against the perpetrators of such crimes.
The director general of police on Saturday held a virtual review meeting of all such cases in a meeting with the district superintendents of police.

A statement issued by the police said that a total of 17 cases on assault on journalists were registered in 2020 and seven in 2021.
While the police have filed chargesheets in 16 of these cases, in three other cases the parties involved were able to reach a compromise through discussion.
The remaining cases are currently under investigation.
Police officials also claimed that in cases where the victims were unable to identify the miscreants, they are trying to trace them.
So far 15 such person involved in attacks on journalists have been identified.
“We have made arrests in cases where the punishment was more than 7 years as per the law. In other cases notices were issued,” a police official said.
However, the Assembly of Journalists (AoJ), an apex body of journalists’ claimed that the number is double and such attacks have intensified since September last year after the open threat by Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb to a section of the media.
