The health condition of former president of Asam Sahitya Sabha, the largest apex literary body of Assam, Dr Lakshminandan Bora, is stated to be ‘critical’.

Dr Bora was admitted to Excelcare Hospitals, a private hospital in Guwahati, after he tested positive for Covid19 on May 20, 2021.

The renowned author, who is the editor of Assamese magazine ‘Goriyoshi’, was admitted to the ICU of the hospital after his condition deteriorated on May 24.

Infection has reportedly been detected in his lung.

The 88-year-old renowned author is known for his novels and short stories.

He was honoured with Padma Shri in 2015 for his contributions to the field of literature.

Dr Bora won Sahitya Akademi Award in 1988 for his novel Patal Bhairavi.

He is a recipient of several other awards including Saraswati Samman, Publication Board Assam Lifetime Achievement Award, Magor Assam Valley Literary award and Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad Rachna Samagra Award.

He served as the president of Assam Sahitya Sabha in 1996–97.

He was also the chairman of the Assam Pollution Control Board from 1997-2003.

In the last 24 hours, Assam reported 90 more Covid19 deaths and 5,699 new positive cases.

The new cases were reported out of 1,16,119 tests in the last 24 hours.

The overall positivity percentage of Assam stood at 4.91% on Wednesday.

Of the new cases, the Kamrup Metro district alone reported 670 cases.

On Wednesday, Assam’s Covid19 recovery rate stood at 85.21%.
