Former Tripura Health minister and MLA of the ruling BJP – Sudip Roy Barman on Tuesday accused the BJP-led State Government of mismanaging the COVID-19 crisis.
Sudip Roy Barman raised questions on the daily COVID-19 data released by the Tripura Government saying that the daily COVID-19 cases and related deaths are just “tip of the iceberg”.
Sudip Roy Barman said: “Massive testing drive should take place. This daily data is just the tip of the iceberg. What the figures reflect is not the actual state of affairs it’s much more than that. The shortage of test possess hindrance in the original reflection of positivity rate.”
“The government should go for massive testing drive, ensure that the vaccination takes place properly within a specific period of time. Government should ensure that overcrowding doesn’t take place in the market or in the bazaar and of course local trains movement should stop for the time being,” Sudip Roy Barman said.

Barman further claimed that COVID-19 patients admitted to Corona Care Centres are receiving “sub-standard” food.
“The government should ensure the best quality of food. An amount of Rs 380 spent for a single patient in the name of food but the standard of the food as reported by the patients is unsatisfactory. There is none to monitor all these things. The government should maintain the quality of food,” the BJP MLA said.
Sudip Roy Barman termed the GB Pant Hospital in Agartala, which is a dedicated covid care centre, as “Door to the hell”.
“Once you are admitted in GB Pant hospital, you are mentally shattered and it is a door to hell. You never know whether you will return back or not. A permanent health minister is the need of the hour. It is not possible for Chief Minister to look after such things because he has to look after other crucial departments like home, DWS and etc. The state should have a full-time health minister,” said Sudip Roy Barman.
