At a time when Covid19 cases are on the rise across the country, more than 400 train passengers rushed out of a railway station in Assam on Sunday and skipped Covid19 test.
According to a media report, the incident took place on Sunday at Jagiroad railway station, around 60 km from Guwahati .
The report said the train passengers, who were mostly migrant workers, including women and children, had travelled by Kanyakumari-Dibrugarh Vivek Express, which was coming from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu.
The train travelled through Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal to reach Assam in five days.
While the Assam government has made Covid19 test for train passengers compulsory on their arrival, a video doing the round on social media shows the passengers rushed en-masse out of the railway station while the police and railway officials looked on.
It has been reported similar incident took place in Bihar last month.
Dozens of people, some with young children, rushed out of a railway station in Buxar fearing Covid19 testing.
The incident has taken place at a time when Assam reported a total of 3,563 new Covid19 cases and 72 more deaths in the last 24 hours.
Assam’s overall positivity percentage was 5.68% on Sunday.
Of the new cases, Kamrup Metro district alone recorded 624 cases.
