In view of rising cases of Covid19, the Kamakhya Temple authority on Wednesday announced that the temple would remain closed for 15 days with effect from May 13, 2021.

The decision has been taken following the directive issued by the Assam government.

The notification, issued by the Doloi of the Maa Kamakhya Devalaya in Guwahati on Wednesday, said: “This is to inform the people of Kamakhya and all the pilgrims that keeping in view of the Covid19 spread in the country, the government has issued an order directing all religious places to be closed with effect from May 13. Therefore, besides Kamakhya Devalaya, all other temples in Kamakhya hill will remain closed from May 13, 2021.”

The Assam government on Wednesday released a fresh set of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) to check Covid19 spread in the state.

As per the SOPs, “all religions places will remain closed for the next 15 days” with effect from May 13.

According to the new set of SOPs, curfew timing across Assam has also been extended.

The SOPs will remain enforced for 15 days starting from 5 am on May 13, 2021.

From Thursday, curfew will come into force from 2 pm in the urban areas of Assam.

As per the SOPs, all market places will be closed by 1 pm in urban areas.

All weekly markets will also remain closed for the next 15 days.

However, in rural areas, curfew will come into force at 6 pm and the shops will be closed by 2 pm.
