COVID-19 vaccination for 18-44 years age group in Sikkim will begin from May 16. 

This was announced be Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang during a meeting with representatives of the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) and Block Development Officers (BDOs) on Tuesday. 

Sikkim Chief Minister also appealed “all those falling under the criteria to register as soon as possible”. 

He also said that “medicines should be delivered to the doorstep of the people who are undergoing home isolation”.

The Sikkim Chief Minister added: “Rations (are) to be delivered to BPL individuals via block Administrative Centres (BACs).” 

With rapid surge in COVID-19 cases and related deaths in Sikkim, the State Government has taken a host of steps to bring the situation under control. 

Negative RT-PCR test report has been made compulsory for all passengers arriving at the Pakyong Airport. 

“All passengers arriving at the Pakyong Airport shall be required to carry a negative RTPCR test report conducted within 48 hours prior to their arrival,” said R Telang – Principal Secretary (Home), Government of Sikkim.

Notably, Sikkim on Tuesday reported 8 COVID-19 deaths, pushing the State’s death toll up to 177. 

On the other hand, as many as 241 new COVID-19 cases were also logged in Sikkim on Tuesday. 

Of these fresh 241 cases, 189 cases were detected in East district, 12 in West district, 35 in South district and 5 in North district.
