A 12-year-old boy was killed in a grenade blast triggered by suspected ULFA (I) militants at Jagun in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place in the Kathakathini area of Tinsukia district. The deceased has been identified as Suraj Hajong.

Sources said suspected ULFA (I) militants planted the grenade on the roadside in Jagun which suddenly went off.

Tinsukia SP Vaibhav Nimbalkar and a team of policemen rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

“We don’t know how the grenade was blasted or who placed the grenade on the roadside. The investigation is on,” said a police source.
