“Fighting COVID-19 is more important than discussing about next Chief Minister of Assam.” 

This was stated by incumbent Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday. 

This was for the first time that Sarbananda Sonowal spoke about Government formation by the BJP in Assam, since declaration of the Assembly election results on May 2. 

Sarbananda Sonowal said: “We will form the Government in Assam. There’s nothing to worry about. But our first priority is to protect the people of Assam from COVID-19.”

Sarbananda Sonowal further informed that a decision in regards to Government formation in Assam would be taken in a couple of days. 

“A meeting of the Parliamentary committee would be convened in a couple of days and the final decision on Government formation would be taken in that meeting,” Sarbananda Sonowal informed. 

Sarbananda Sonowal made these statements after visiting the COVID Care Centre that has been set up at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium at Sarusajai in Guwahati. 

Sarbananda Sonowal took stock of the preparedness at the COVID Care Centre at the IGA Stadium in Guwahati.

He said that the Assam Health Department is working day and night to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the State. 

Sonowal further said that Assam Health Department is trying everything to contain the spread of COVID-19 without imposing a lockdown.
