Director of Tripura Tourism – Raval Hamendra Kumar will take up charge as the West Tripura DM.

This was informed by Tripura Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Sunday.

Raval Hamendra Kumar has been given charge as the West Tripura DM “for the time being”.

The development comes after West Tripura District Magistrate Shailesh Kumar Yadav wrote to State Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar seeking relinquishing from the charge of DM and Collector till the inquiry is completed.

The letter written by Shailesh informed, “The Government of Tripura has constituted a high-level Enquiry Committee to enquire into incidents which happened in the night of 26th April 2021 during marriage ceremonies being held in violation of Corona Night Curfew at Manikya Court & Golap Bagan, Agartala. In the interest of an impartial inquiry I request for relinquishment of my charge as DM & Collector West Tripura District”.

The enquiry was initiated against Shailesh after he conducted sudden raids in two wedding halls in Agartala city and purportedly seen to misbehave with the bride, groom, priest and elderly person on April 26.

The video of the district magistrate went viral in various media platforms where Yadav was seen thrashing the groom, beating a priest and using abusive words.

Yadav on Friday appeared before a committee consisting of IAS officers Kiran Gitte and Tanushree Debbarma.

The duo will submit their report to the Tripura chief secretary after completing the inquiry, and then the report would be handed over to chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

“The committee summoned me for giving evidence today (Friday). I came here at 3 pm and have submitted my statement and other documents,” Yadav had said while speaking to Northeast Now.
