Amid the deadly second wave of the Covid-19, the Assam government on Friday extended the night curfew in the state for 6 more days till May 7.

Issuing an order for the same, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that the state-wide night curfew will remain in force till May 7, 2021.

The Assam government had on Tuesday imposed night curfew across the state from 8 pm to 5 am till May 1 as part of its measures to contain Covid-19 cases growing rapidly since the beginning of April.

Assam chief secretary Jishnu Baruah had said the decision to impose night curfew has been prompted by “rapid increase” in the number of active Covid-19 cases and for the “well-being and safety of the people”.

Assam on Friday reported 26 COVID-19 deaths taking the death toll to 1,307 while 3,197 new cases pushed the tally to 2, 53,126.
