Bangladesh has sealed its border with India.
The Bangladesh Government has taken this decision keeping in view the deteriorating COVID-19 situation in India.
The Bangladesh Government has imposed strict cross-border travel restrictions for Indians.
There will be no passenger travel from India to Bangladesh via land for the next 14 days.
The restrictions will come into force from Tuesday (April 26).
“Passenger travel from India to Bangladesh via land will remain closed from tomorrow (Tuesday) for 14 days,” Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen informed.
However, goods transport between both the nations will continue as usual.
The decision of sealing the border with India was taken by the Bangladesh Government was taken during an inter-ministerial meeting held in Dhaka on Sunday.
Earlier, the National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) of Bangladesh on COVID-19 had stressed on the need to introduce strict cross-border travel restrictions amid alarming surge in coronavirus cases and deaths in the neighbouring India.
The NTAC on COVID-19 had also recommended that the borders should not re-open until the situation in India improves.
“We have suggested that the government seal off the borders with India right away as the situation there is grim,” Professor Nazrul Islam, member of NTAC had said to Bangladesh media.

Notably, India on Sunday, registered nearly 3.5 lakh new COVID-19 positive cases and 2,767 deaths.
The national COVID-19 recovery rate has further dropped to 83.05%.
