Amid surge in COVID19 cases, Assam’s popular singer Angaraag Papon Mahanta has appealed to the people to follow COVID19 protocols laid down by the government and wear masks.

Papon made the appeal while performing during a Bihu function organised by Pathsala Rongali Bihu Sanmiloni at Pathsala High Secondary School field in the Bajali district on Sunday night.

The popular singer also requested the people, who gathered in the field to enjoy his performance, to wear face masks in public places.

Papon said, “After a long time, I have come to Assam. During this COVID19 situation, Assam is safe in comparison to other states.”

“To save Assam, we have to wear mask. Protect yourself and your family. So, I request all to follow COVID protocols,” he added.

Due to surge in Covid19 positive cases, many Bihu organising committees have cancelled Bihu functions across Assam.

Assam on Sunday reported 6 new COVID19 related deaths.

The state registered 639 new COVID19 positive in the last 24 hours.

Kamrup-Metro, Barpeta, Cachar, Dhemaji, Morigaon and Tinsukia districts reported one COVID19 death case each.

According to the latest Covid19 bulletin, released by the Assam health department, Assam recorded 639 fresh COVID19 cases, of which more than half were reported from Guwahati.

As many as 354 fresh COVID19 cases were detected from the Kamrup Metro district.
