Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed the Lakhimpur district administration to create micro-containment zones where Covid-19 positive cases are being detected in the district to contain the spread of the virus.
He also asked the district administration to ensure that sufficient numbers of oxygen cylinders and beds in the intensive care units (ICU) of hospitals are kept ready to treat the rising number of cases.
While on his visit to Lakhimpur on Saturday, the chief minister also asked senior officials to ramp up Covid-19 testing in the district.
36 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Lakhimpur on Saturday and with this, the total cases have reached 7996.

Last week, a person from Dhalpur in the district died of Covid-19 at Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh.
Meanwhile, the district administration has taken up steps to enforce the measures imposed to check the spread of the contagious disease.
Presently the North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital has six ICU beds and 81 oxygen cylinders available.
On the other hand, the chief minister also expressed concern about the Bihu functions being held in different places in the district and asked all to adhere to Covid-19 protocols.
