On the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the historic Flag Hoisting Day, Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla and chief minister N Biren Singh paid their tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at Moirang on Wednesday (April 14).
Manipur Governor Heptulla has greeted the people on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Flag Hoisting Day.
She said it was on April 14, 1944 that the Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army), led by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, captured Moirang in Manipur from the British force.

“Greetings on the occasion of 77th Anniversary of the historic Flag Hoisting Day at Moirang. On April 14, 1944, the Azad Hind Fauj captured Moirang (Manipur) from the British. My humble tributes to all those who gave their lives for the freedom of the country,” Governor Heptulla tweeted.

During World War II, Moirang was the headquarters of the Indian National Army (INA).
Colonel Shaukat Malik of the Indian National Army or Azad Hind Fauj hoisted the Tricolour in Moirang for the second time on the Indian soil on April 14, 1944 with the help of Manipuris like Mairembam Koireng Singh and others who were members of the INA.
Moirang is a small town situated 45 km south of Imphal.
The INA Museum at Moirang displays some wartime relics and photographs.
On Wednesday, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh attended the 77th anniversary of the Flag Hoisting Day at INA Martyr’s Memorial Complex in Moirang.
He said he felt honoured after attending the 77th anniversary of the Flag Hoisting Day at Moirang.
“Honoured to have attended the 77th Anniversary of the historic Flag Hoisting Day at INA Martyr’s Memorial Complex, Moirang where during World War II, the #IndianNationalArmy hoisted the Tricolour on Indian soil on 14 April 1944,” N Biren Singh said.
“Paid my tributes to #netajisubhaschandrabose,” he said.

The main feature of the INA Martyr’s Memorial Complex at Moirang is a reconstruction of the INA’s memorial to its fallen soldiers as it stood in Singapore, before its destruction at the hands of British-Indian Army sappers in 1945.
The memorial complex contains a museum dedicated to the INA along with a library and an auditorium and a statue of Subhas Chandra Bose.
