Arunachal Pradesh agriculture and fisheries minister Tage Taki said besides being one of the tourist hotspots, Mechuka has much potential for growth and development of agriculture, horticulture and its allied sectors.
Taki said this while inaugurating a Trout Fish Farm and Raceways at Dorjeeling village in Meckuka in West Siang district on Friday.
Arunachal Pradesh legislative assembly speaker Pasang D Sona was also present on the occasion.
However, development should not take place haphazardly or by disturbing the natural environment, he said.
“Nature has given us so much and it is our responsibility to protect it. People should opt for sustainable agriculture and horticulture activities by using scientific methodology for income generation,” the minister said.
“All my departmental officers are working hard to identify the allied activities that can be taken up in the area as per existing climatic and other and conditions,” he further said.
The state fisheries department is working hard to make Mechuka an exclusive place for trout farming as pisciculture is one of the promising industries with lots of potential.
Mechuka’s climatic condition, river temperature and all other factors are quite good and favourable for trout farming, which should be utilized for quality production of different species of fishes.
The growth of trout will not only help in income generation for the locals, but also boost adventure tourism.
Angling is one of the much sought after adventure activities today.
Taki called upon the youths of the area to come forward and take up such sustainable activities for self-employment.
Earlier, the minister along with other government officials also visited the Lamang Border Post and interacted with the ITBP and Army jawans.
