The Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam has recovered 297.1 gm of heroin from Zokhawthar In Mizoram’s Champhai district.

The heroin was seized during a joint operation conducted by a team of Assam Rifles jawans and officials of the Mizoram excise and narcotics department on Wednesday.

The excise and narcotics department also detained an individual in this connection

The market value of the contraband is estimated to be worth Rs 1,18,84,000.

The Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles also recovered 16 cases of smuggled cigarettes of foreign origin in Champhai district.

A team of Assam Rifles jawans and officials of the Mizoram customs department conducted a search operation, during which they recovered the foreign cigarettes.

The cigarettes are estimated to be worth Rs 15,60,000 in the market.

One person has also been detained in this connection.

Meanwhile, Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga on Wednesday inaugurated a de-addiction and rehabilitation centres for drug and alcohol addicts in the Kolasib district.

In view of the alarming increase in cases of drug abuse in the state, the Mizoram government is prioritising on rehabilitation of individuals hooked to drugs and awareness campaigns to steer away the youths from the world of drugs.
