Three-layer security arrangements have been made at EVM strong rooms in Assam’s Dhubri district, under the tight vigil of the election commission.

There are two strong rooms in Dhubri, one at Bhola Nath College in Dhubri town wherein the EVMs of Dhubri, Gauripur and Golakganj constituencies has been kept.

The second strong room is at the premises of Bilasipara sub-divisional office where the EVMs of Bilasipara East and Bilasipara West constituencies have been kept under tight security.

The district officials said that while the central paramilitary forces are guarding the inner circle of the strong rooms, the outer parameter is secured by the Assam Police Battalion.

The local police have been deployed on the streets.

“The buildings where the EVMs are stored were sealed this morning under the supervision of the election observer and are being guarded and monitored by the paramilitary forces, who will be responsible for protecting and securing the building structure.

Outside the walls, there are Assam Police Batallion jawans standing guard to ensure that nobody is able to breach into the building,” said an official, adding that the third line of defence is the local police, which are keeping a vigil on the roads leading towards the strong rooms.

There are CCTVs installed, which are under the watch of the election commission.

“In addition to the constant electricity supply, these heavily guarded rooms have a generator-based power backup. In events of any unexpected disruption of power supply, these generators will automatically turn on,” the official added.

Meanwhile, Dhubri deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Kalita has expressed their heartfelt thanks to the peoples of district for participating in voting process in record numbers.

In Dhubri district, Golakganj constituency recorded the highest voter turnout of 90.68 per cent followed by Gauripur at 90.50 per cent,  Dhubri at 90.13 per cent and Bilasipara West and Bilasipara East 86.16 per cent respectively.
