Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday interacted with the village authority of Marou Village at his official residence in Imphal in Manipur
The village residents had called on the chief minister and pledged their support to the Manipur governments’ ‘War On Drugs’ campaign.
Residents of the Marou village in Kamjong district had destroyed several poppy plantations in and around the village in the past three years.
Residents in most districts across Manipur have joined in this fight against drugs and have come out to organize campaigns to highlight the issue.
The state government had also given away a cash prize worth Rs 10 lakhs to residents of Peh (Paoyi) Village for their contribution in destroying large poppy cultivations.
Many farmers especially in the border areas of the state cultivate poppy mainly because of the huge profit they earn by selling it to people engaged in cross-border smuggling of the crop.

The village authority has been destroying poppy plantations in the village and surrounding areas for the last 3 years,” N Biren Singh tweeted.
