The CPI(M) has lodged a complaint against Tripura chief Biplab Kumar Deb with the state election commission against CM Biplab Kumar Deb for violating the model code of conduct ahead of the Tripura Tribals Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.
The TTAADC elections will be held in Tripura on April 6.
The CPI(M) alleged that Deb who has been busy campaigning for the BJP in different places of the state has been speaking with people from the administration as well as returning officers which amounts to a violation of the model code of conduct.
CPI(M) chairman Bijan Dhar, state party secretary Gautam Das and former minister Manik Dey had met with the election commission officials on Saturday.
“We have received a number of reports about the way the chief minister has been campaigning in different places and talking to government officials especially, returning officers. This is worrisome,” said Bijan Dhar.
“Who is bearing the expenditure of choppers that Deb is using for campaigning? If the state government is bearing this cost, then it is a violation of the model code of conduct,” Dhar said.
CPI (M) leaders also made a number of demands for free and peaceful voting.
They also demanded that tight security be put in place to prevent the rigging of votes.
‘We asked the commission to take necessary measures for free and fair voting in the TTAADC elections,” Dhar said.
Bijan Dhar said the manner in which the BJP led state government has shown disrespect for democracy in the last three years, the people now have an opportunity to vote them out of power in the autonomous district council.
