In a major push to the developmental projects in the northeastern region, New Delhi has approved a sum of Rs 5300.00 crore under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS).

This fund will be utilized to meet the committed liability of approximately Rs 3700.00 crore for completing the ongoing projects under Non- Lapsable Central Pool Resources (NLCPR) scheme and to take up projects of Rs 1600.00 crore under the 100 percent new centrally funded scheme of NESIDS.

Disclosing this in the Parliament recently DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said, “Government has approved a new scheme “North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS)” at a total cost of Rs 5300.00 crore.”

All non-exempt Union Ministries are required to mandatorily earmark 10 percent of their Gross Budgetary Allocation (GBA) annually for the North Eastern Region.

Under the existing NLCPR scheme, 1614 projects of various sectors were taken up for funding till September last year. Out of this, 972 projects have been completed.

In agriculture and allied sector five projects have been completed. In education sector as many as 94 projects have been completed. In flood control and irrigation sector 162 projects have been completed. In health sector 35 projects have been completed.

As many as 60 miscellaneous projects have also been completed.  In power sector 175 projects have been completed. In road and bridges sector 332 projects have been completed. In sports sector 17 projects have been completed. In water supply sector as many as 92 projects have been completed.

In this current year 2017-18 including the on-going scheme of NLCPR a sum of Rs 2,172.25 crore and 82.13 crore has been sanctioned for Arunachal Pradesh. A sum of Rs 12,035.62 crore and 119.52 crore have been released for Assam.

For Manipur a sum of Rs 3,951.79 crore and 142.58 crore have been released. For Meghalaya a sum of Rs 3,120.11 crore and 84.85 crore has been released. For Mizoram a sum of Rs 3,477.83 crore and 51.91 crore has been released. For Nagaland a sum of Rs 5,009.27 crore and 38.87 crore has been released. For Sikkim Rs 935.02 and 51.68 crore has been released For Tripura Rs 3,051.34 crore and 64.55 crore have been under the current financial year.
