The police have recovered arms and ammunition from the Ripu Reserve Forest under Saraibil border outpost in Assam’s Kokrajhar district ahead of the Assam Assembly elections.

The arms had reportedly been hidden in the reserve forest by an armed underground outfit.

IGP of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), LR Bisnoi said that the arms have been hidden by the NLFB M Batha, a militant outfit.

A police team led by Kokrajhar additional SP Mukut Rabha conducted the operation.

The team recovered three AK series rifles, three magazines, 157 rounds of ammunition from the reserve forest.

They also recovered other items like blankets, tarpoline sheets, medicines and edible items like rice, pulses, onions, salt, edible oil and salt from the spot.

The entire area is cordoned and searched thoroughly, but no one was found within a radius of 4 kilometers.

A case has been registered and the police are investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in the entire district ahead of the Assam Assembly elections.

Kokrajhar district will go to polls during the third phase of the Assam Assembly elections on April 6.
