Manipur’s Power Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh on Sunday said the target of providing electricity to all households in Manipur by December 2018 is a commitment of the State Government towards the people as the ‘industrialisation process is not possible without electricity’.

Minister Biswajit said this while speaking at the Ringui Luira Phanit-cum-Cultural Festival 2018 organised at Ringui Village in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on Sunday evening.

The festival of the Tangkhul community in the State was also attended by Chingai MLA Khashim Vashum.

Biswajit said that for inaccessible areas in the interior villages where installation of poles is inconceivable, power supply will be made available through off-grid electrification by installing solar energy units.

Explaining various schemes including UJALA, Kisan Sampada, ZED – Zero Effect Zero Defect, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Sukanya Samiti, etc., Biswajit urged the people to take benefits of such schemes.

The minister further urged the village authorities and all concerned to identify households who are yet to get electricity and said that the Prime Minister has launched a scheme to provide free or low-cost electricity connections to such households.

He explained that the scheme ‘Saubhagya’ was launched with the mission to ensure that all households in the country have electricity by the set deadline.
