Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Sunday appreciated members of the Mao Naga Women Welfare Association for pledging their support to the state government’s war on drugs.
These women hailing from Mao in the Senapati district have decided to initiate steps to prevent the cultivation of poppy in all villages under Mao.
The Manipur government has been struggling hard to fight the drugs menace in the state.
A considerable number of farmers especially in the border districts of the state are engaged in the cultivation of opium as it is easy to cultivate and highly profitable.
Many cultivators also have a nexus with smugglers engaged in cross-border smuggling of opium.
“I salute the Mao Naga Women Welfare Association for supporting our Government’s #WarOnDrugs campaign. Thank you all for taking the pledge to completely ban poppy plantations in all the Mao villages,” N Biren Singh tweeted.

Meanwhile, several NGOs and people in several districts of Manipur are coming forward to join hands against the menace of drugs.
