On the last day of filing nomination for the first phase of Assam Assembly elections, Congress veteran Bharat Narah filed his nomination from Naoboicha constituency on Tuesday.

Bharat Narah submitted his nomination papers before the Returning Officer at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in North Lakhimpur.

Bharat Narah was accompanied by his wife and Congress‘ Rajya Sabha MP – Ranee Narah for nomination filing.

This is for the first time that Bharat Narah is contesting from Naoboicha constituency.

Earlier, from 1985 till 2011, Bharat Narah was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from Dhakuakhana constituency.

The Assam Congress has fielded Padma Lochan Doley as its candidate from the Dhakuakhana constituency.

Padma Lochan Doley also submitted his nomination papers on Tuesday before the Sub-Divisional Returning Officer at Dhakuakhana.

Congress candidate from Lakhimpur – Joy Prakash Das also filed his nomination on Tuesday.

Filing of nomination for the first phase of elections to the Assam Legislative Assembly ended on Tuesday.

A total of 47 constituencies go to polls in the first phase of Assam Assembly elections.

Polling for the first phase of elections are scheduled to be held on March 27.
