“If there is no BJP, there may be no AIUDF.”
This was stated by senior Assam Congress leader Debabrata Saikia.
Debabrata Saikia made this statement while reacting to the offer made by Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi of joining the Grand Alliance provided AIUDF no longer remains a part of it.
“There is merit in Akhil Gogoi’s suggestion. But the decision rests with the high command. The AIUDF also needs to look into its characteristics. If there is no BJP, there may be no AIUDF,” Congress leader Debabrata Saikia said.
On the other hand, Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi reiterated that the Assam Congress would not field candidate against Akhil Gogoi and Lurinjyoti Gogoi.
“We have said that we will not field candidates in constituencies where Akhil Gogoi and Lurinjyoti Gogoi contest,” Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi said.

Meanwhile, the Assam Congress is finding itself in a very complex situation following the offer made by Akhil Gogoi.
In an open letter a few days ago, Akhil Gogoi appealed opposition parties to field common candidates in all the 126 Assam Assembly seats that go to polls from March 27.
“There might be differences of opinion and ideologies among all the political parties. But the need of the hour is to oust the BJP from Dispur and bring an anti-CAA force in power. The Opposition must rethink their strategy,” Akhil Gogoi had stated in his open letter.
