In a heartbreaking incident, a poverty-stricken couple has attempted suicide by consuming poison in the Sepahijala district of Tripura.
The tragic incident took place at Manikya Nagar village under Boxanagar police station in Sepahijala district.
Locals said the couple, identified as Rajib Paul, 21, and Preeti Das, 20, allegedly made a suicide bid on Thursday by consuming a poisonous substance.
The family members rushed them to Boxanagar Primary Hospital in a critical condition and subsequently taken to GBP Hospital at Agartala.
Police said the couple, who got married last year after dating for few months, took the extreme step as the family was living in extreme poverty.
On Friday Rajib died at the hospital while his pregnant wife suffered a miscarriage.
Sources said the condition of Preeti is stable.
