The prices of petrol and diesel have been hiked ‘discreetly’ in Meghalaya.

The prices of petrol were hiked by a few paise in Meghalaya in the last two days.

The prices of petrol and diesel were hiked ‘discreetly’ by 45 paise and 50 paise respectively in the last two days.

Although the Meghalaya Government had announced a cut in the prices of petrol and diesel by over Rs 7 recently, the rates are a few paise above the announced prices.

As per the announcement made by the Meghalaya Government on February 16, the prices of petrol and diesel should have been Rs 85.86 per litre and Rs 79.13 per litre respectively in Shillong.

However, the prices of petrol and diesel at which they are being sold at fuel stations in Shillong as on February 17 (Wednesday), were Rs 86.05 and Rs 79.35 per litre respectively.

On Thursday (February 18), the prices of petrol and diesel further shot up.

The prices of petrol and diesel as on February 18 (Wednesday) have risen to Rs 86.31 per litre and Rs 79.63 per litre respectively.

Earlier on February 16, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had stated that by reducing VAT on petrol by Rs 7.4 and Rs 7.1 on diesel, the prices of petrol and diesel will come down to Rs 85.86 per litre from Rs 91.26 and Rs 79.13 per litre from Rs 84.23 respectively.
