Kiran Bedi has been removed as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, said a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement issued late Tuesday night.

Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has been given the additional charge of Puducherry with effect from the date she assumes the charge of her office.

The statement, issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday, said: “The President has directed that Dr. Kiran Bedi shall cease to hold the office of the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry and has appointed Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, Governor of Telangana, to discharge the functions of the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry, in addition to her own duties, with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office, until regular arrangements for the office of Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry are made.”

Former IPS officer and activist Bedi has been removed as the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry ahead of the crucial elections in the Union territory later this year.

Just four hours back, Bedi shared a video on her Twitter handle saying, “Took a review of why COVID vaccine intake is low in Puducherry.”
