Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu on Sunday unveiled the bust of Padma Shri Major Bob Khating and laid the foundation stone of the Major Ralengnao ‘Bob’ Khathing Memorial Museum in Tawang.
Khating will also be posthumously honoured with Arunachal Ratna, the highest civilian award of the state.
The museum will be built to honour Khating, whose efforts succeeded in integrating Tawang with the Indian sub-continent in 1951.
He hoisted the Indian national flag in Tawang on this very day 70 years ago.
Major Bob Khating, a Tangkhul Naga hailed from Ukhrul district in Manipur and had served in the British army.
He fought World War II and was awarded the Military Cross for his valour.
The Arunachal Pradesh government had earlier said that the museum will be set up to keep his legacy alive and allow the public a chance to know about his numerous contributions to India.

Khandu laid the foundation stone of the museum in the presence of Arunachal Pradesh governor BD Mishra, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma, Union minister of state for youth affairs and sports Kiren Rijiju and India’s first chief of defence staff General Bipin Rawat.
