Electronic toll plaza

Commuters now no longer require to maintain the mandatory minimum amount in their FASTag accounts to pass through electronic toll plazas.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to do remove the mandatory threshold amount for the FASTag wallet, which was levied on the user in addition to the security deposit for the passenger segment at electronic toll plazas.

The move will ensure unhindered movement of traffic through the toll plazas, a report stated.

Users with a non-negative balance in their FASTag wallets can now pass through the toll gates and if the account balance becomes negative later, the issuer bank can recover the amount from the security deposit.

The user will, however, have to replenish the depleting security deposit at the time of the next recharge.

Earlier users were unable to pass through toll plazas despite having sufficient balance in their FASTag accounts as issuer banks permitted a threshold amount value in addition to the security deposit.

Meanwhile, the NHAI aims to make tolling at toll plazas cashless across India.

FASTag contributes 80 per cent of the total toll collection and its toll collection per day is more than Rs 89 crore.
