A husband-wife duo from Assam’s Jorhat district has been arrested by the police from Changtongya in Mokokchung district of Nagaland for allegedly running a prostitution racket.

The 2 accused persons have been identified as: Rima Das from Dergaon in Golaghat district and her husband, Pallab Handique, who hails from Titabar in Jorhat district.

The accused husband-wife duo was arrested by the police in the wee hours on Saturday.

The accused couple was allegedly running the prostitution racket from their residence at Bohotia village in Jorhat district.

The police has registered a case against the accused couple under sections 366(A)/373 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section R/W4 of the POCSO Act.

The Assam Police team was assisted by a team of Nagaland Police in nabbing the accused couple.

Notably, it was on February 1, that the police in Jorhat had conducted a raid at a house, which was taken on rent by Rima Das and Pallab Handique and rescued 3 minor girls, who were locked up the couple and forced into prostitution.

The girls, who hail from Golaghat district, while narrating their ordeal, informed the police that they were lured by the couple and another person by making false promises of offering job in a beauty parlour.

The third accused has been identified as Santanu Tamuly of Sivasagar, continues to evade arrest.
