The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) has sought the introduction of Bodo department at Delhi University.

The demand was raised during the delegate session of ABSU’s 53rd annual conference held at Mungkhlong Fwthar, Borpukuri in Gohpur.

During the 3-day annual conference of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), the delegate session adopted various resolutions for the socio-education and economic welfare and development in Assam, informed ABSU speaker Phanin Boro.

ABSU thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for implementing various clauses of the MoS of the BTR Accord within one year.

The ABSU also appealed to the Centre and state government to implement the remaining clauses of the BTR Accord in a time-bound manner.

The Bodo students’ union appealed to the state government for formation of the interim body for the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council.

The other clauses of the BTR Accord include: ST Hill status for the Bodos living in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao as per the MoS of the BTR Accord.

Inclusion of all the Bodo and tribal inhabited villages already submitted by the village headmen and Bodo organisations in BTR.

To provide land right under FRA Act, 2006 to the Tribal people of Sonitpur and Biswanath district including various districts of Assam as per the spirit of the MoS of 5.3 BTR Accord in the line of present policy of distribution of land pattas in Assam.

Withdrawal of cases of NDFB members and release of all members from various jails of Assam, India and abroad is also another clause of the BTR Accord, which the students’ union wants to be implemented.

The ABSU wants the government to provincialise the schools and colleges under BTR and Assam before the Assembly election as per the MoS of the BTR Accord.

Filling of all vacancy positions in LP, UP & High School with immediate effect and creation of more number of posts in Bodo department in various colleges and universities are two other issues the ABSU seeks to be implemented.

The ABSU wants TET-qualified teachers to be appointed in various Bodo medium schools to rationalise single teacher and zero teacher category schools.

The students’ union seeks establishment of more number of Bodo medium LP, ME & High schools under NEP where Bodo medium education is utmost necessary.

It has also sought establishment of Bodoland skill centre at various places of BTR, BKWAC of Assam under Bodoland skill mission for skill training and employment generation and competitive exam coaching centre in public-private partnership (PPP) mode.

The ABSU resolved to organise Bodo Teachers National Meet to understand and discuss burning issues of Bodo medium education and building of quality education.

The students’ union also plans to organise Bodo Students Parliament twice a year to discuss and resolve various issues of the Bodos and recommendations to the government, ABSU speaker Phanin Boro added.
