Book lovers can now catch up with the works of their favourite writers at the 39th edition of the Agartala Book Fair that will commence from February 26 in Agartala.

The book fair will offer the public a much needed opportunity to relax as most of the people have been keeping to their homes during the past 10 months on account of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The 12-day book fair will wind up on March 9.

Deputy chief minister Jishnu Deb Barma on Monday announced that the 39th edition of the Agartala Book Fair will be held at the Hapania International Fair Ground in Agartala.

The theme for the book fair this year is “Amader Tripura, Srestha Tripura”, literally meaning “Our Tripura, Best Tripura”.

Several publishers from Bangladesh, Guwahati and Kolkata will be participating in the book fair this year.

“Publishers from Bangladesh, Guwahati and Kolkatta have already approached us and expressed their desire to participate in the Agartala Book Fair,” said Jishnu Deb Barma.

However, the Tripura Publishers’ Guild appealed to the state government to not hold the event at the Hapania International Fair Ground.

The Publishers’Guild had last year boycotted the book fair, which the government had organized at Hapania.

“We are giving huge discounts to the booksellers at the Agartala Book Fair this year. We have also waived off the registration fee for them,” said Barma.

“The participants will also discounts on the rent and electricity bill charged,” said Barma.
