World Dentist Day was celebrated for the first time in Bongaigaon on March 6.

Indian Dental Association’s Assam state branch in association with proposed lower Assam branch celebrated Dentist Day with a day-long programme on Tuesday.

Every year March 6 is celebrated as World Dentist Day to remember the contribution of dental surgeons to humanity.

There are around 140,000 dental surgeons in India and they are integral part of India’s public health system as oral health is a must for general health.

Every nine out of 10 people suffer from some kind of dental diseases and dental surgeons through their skill and motivation are doing a great job by relieving the suffering of people.

“General public need to be more aware of the contributions of dental surgeons,” Dr Choudhury felt.

He also said that it is a great pleasure for someone when society is benefited from ‘your service’.

The scientific session was inaugurated by Dr Bordoloi.

In his inagural speech Dr Bordoloi said that since the opening of first ever dental school in USA in the year 1828 there evolved many changes in technology and the dental surgery scenario.

And today’s dental surgeons need to be in tune with the latest technologies.

Dr G L Das, the senior most dental surgeon from Bongaigaon and former vice president of Indian Dental Association’s central commitee said that dental surgeons need unity to solve the issues and also improve their skills.
