Toppling of statues: PM Modi warns stern action against vandalism 

Taking a strong note of the incidents of vandalism pouring from across India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that stern action will be taken against those found guilty. 

Prime Minister Modi has strongly condemned the reported incidents of vandalism in certain parts of country and said stern action will be taken against those found guilty. Incidents of toppling of statues have been reported from certain parts of the country.

In South Tripura’s Belonia, a statue of Lenin was demolished allegedly by saffron supporters. A statue of Tamil icon EVR Ramasamy or Periyar was vandalised in Tamil Nadu. However, a bust of BJP icon Syama Prasad Mookerjee was damaged in Kolkata on Wednesday morning.

The Prime Minister spoke to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in this regard and expressed his strong disapproval of such incidents. Ministry of Home Affairs has taken serious note of such incidents of vandalism.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has asked the States that they must take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents. Persons indulging in such acts must be sternly dealt with and booked under relevant provisions of law.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah said that people found involved in such vandalism incidents will be dealt strongly.

“Strong disciplinary actions will be taken against any party workers found guilty in vandalism incidents,” said Shah.

Officials said that security have been beefed up around statues in Delhi, Mumbai and a few other states.
