The mortal remains of Naik Amar Sher Singh, who succumbed to injuries while being evacuated to a military hospital following an ambush with the militants in Manipur, has been flown to his home town in Punjab by air on Wednesday.

Prior to sending the body of the non-commissioned officer by flight, a floral tribute ceremony was held at the Imphal International Airport, about 7 km south of here in the morning around 10.30 am.

Governor Dr Heptulla said, “I’m really sorry that we have lost a young jawan. My sympathy is for his family and his kin.”

The Governor said the troops are stationed in different parts of Manipur and they protect the people and our children.

Dr Heptulla said, “I appeal to the ultras to stop all these activities and they should come forward in building a strong nation, strong Manipur. It is your state, it is your people.”

Thirty one year old Naik Amar Sher Singh sustained injury on his chest when suspected NSCN (IM) militants fired on the patrol of 13 Sikh Light Infantry near Nungadang village, about 3 km east of Khoupum police station under Noney district around 9.50 am on March 5. He succumbed to his injuries while being evacuated to a military hospital at Leimakhong in Manipur.

Naik Amar Sher Singh is survived by his wife Veerpal Kaur and one four-year old daughter at his home town Fazika in Punjab.

General Officer Commanding Major General BK Mishra of Red Shield division, DGP Manipur LK Khaute, Additional Chief Secretary Dr Suresh Babu, IG Major General IGP CRPF (Manipur and Nagaland) Vikram Sahgal, Officiating IG Assam Rifles (South) Brig RK Singh, IGP (Zone I) Manipur Police Clay Khongsai and other senior officers of state central forces also attended the floral tribute ceremony.
