Members of AJYCP on Monday burnt the effigy of Union home minister Amit Shah in Jorhat.

Members of AJYCP on Monday burnt the effigy of Union home minister Amit Shah in protest against the alleged belittling remark made by Shah on the martyrs of Assam agitation during his speech in Guwahati on Saturday.

The AJYCP protestors holding aloft placards and shouting slogans against Shah and the BJP burnt the Union home minister’s effigy at the Garali area in Jorhat.

The protesters, led by the Jorhat city unit president (In-Charge) Debojit Baruah and general secretary Gautam Das, said that any kind of insult to the martyrs of Assam will not be tolerated and people of the State will always fight for their rights and against those who work against the interest of the Assamese society.

The protesters also slammed the BJP for the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 which they said was against the interests of indigenous people of the State.

They further slammed the BJP for backtracking on the big river dam projects which they had initially opposed and on transferring land to Bangladesh after coming to power at the Centre and in Assam.
