Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hold a virtual summit on Thursday.
Both the leaders will hold discussions on strengthening bilateral ties and enhance co-operation post COVID-19 pandemic.
The summit will be held just a day after India observed ‘Vijay Diwas’ on Wednesday, December 16, which marks India’s triumph over Pakistan in the 1971 war that led to liberation of Bangladesh.
The Haldibari (West Bengal) to Chilahati (Bangladesh) railway line is likely to be re-opened after 55 years during the summit.
The railway line from Haldibari in West Bengal to Chilahati in Bangladesh has been defunct since 1965, after rail-links between India and erstwhile East-Pakistan was snapped following the breakout of the 1965 Indo-Pak war.
Notably, India and Bangladesh had been making sincere efforts to boost transport and connectivity between both nations in recent times.

Both the Prime Ministers are likely to jointly inaugurate a commemorative stamp on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh’s ‘Father of the Nation’.
A Bangabandhu-Bapu Digital Exhibition is also expected to be jointly inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina, which will celebrate the life and legacies of Mahatma Gandhi and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
This exhibition will be displayed in New Delhi. Subsequently, it would also be on display at different locations in Bangladesh, the United Nations and would finally culminate at Kolkata in early 2022.
