CPI (M) Tripura secretary Gautam Das has said that the chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb was trying to divert attention from the failure of his government by seeking to draw people’s mandate through a public meeting.
“The chief minister seeking the people’s mandate is nothing more than a drama to divert attention from the failure of his government,” said Das.
“While many people of Tripura are starving, the present government is engaged in a struggle for power,” he said.
Deb had sought public opinion on whether he should continue as the chief minister of Tripura in a meeting to be organized on December 13 in Agaratala.
He sought public opinion in retaliation to the demand for a change in the state leadership by a few dissident BJP MLAs,
These MLAs had shouted slogans, “Biplab hatao, BJP bachao” during BJP state in-change, Vinod Sonkar’s visit to the state recently.

On the other hand, BJP chief JP Nadda intervened to solve the crisis within the Tripura BJP unit and asked Deb to continue as the chief minister.
BJP ally IPFT supremo and state revenue minister, NC Debbarma said, “It’s unbecoming of the chief minister to seek public opinion in this manner.”
“Any dispute he with the legislators of his party should have been solved internally and he should not have dragged the state government into it,” said Debbarma.
Tripura Pradesh Congress president Pijush Biswas said, “The chief minister along with his cabinet ministers should resign and fresh polls should be held if he actually wanted to know the public opinion.”
