The Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) has Installed two liquid medical oxygen (LMO) gas vessels of sizes 10KL and 20KL, making a buffer stock of oxygen available for approximately 30 days in normal conditions.

The assistant professor of the surgery department at JMCH, Dr Nilotpal Bhattacharjee, said with the installation of these two gas vessels by the state health department through the Premier Cryogenics Ltd, Guwahati, the fear of the hospital running out of oxygen cylinders has been allayed.

“The 10KL LMO vessel is equivalent to approximately 1,200 jumbo/ D Type oxygen cylinders; so once filled, it can supply oxygen for approximately 10 days during normal conditions and with the other 20KL LMO vessel, we can expect approximately 1-month buffer stock of oxygen supply,” he said.

“Another two medical oxygen generation plants are under construction in JMCH. Expecting to get completed by the end of this month. Then we shall have our own production of medical oxygen, ” Bhattacharjee stated.

“The 10KL has been made functional on Saturday and 20 KL will be commissioned next week, ” he said.

The vessels were dedicated to the hospital by professor Dr. Ratna Kanta Talukdar, Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent, JMCH, in presence of Dr. Purnima Barua, superintendent, JMCH; professor Dr. Rajib Hazarika, HOD, Anaesthesiology and professor Dr. Krishna Talukdar, HOD, Dermatology.

Dr. Rituparna Phukan Roy, associate professor of Pharmacology; Dr. Pallab Bora, associate professor of Anaesthesiology, Dr. Manab Narayan Baruah, associate professors of Paediatrics, Dr. Manab Gohain and Bhattacharjee were also present at the event.

He further said they were procuring medical oxygen in jumbo/D type cylinders and B type cylinders from Assam Air Products, Sivasagar and Himalayan Air Products, Dibrugarh.
