Likabali MLA Kardo Nyigyor

The People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) has suspended Likabali MLA Kardo Nyigyor from the party with immediate effect for “anti-party activities”.

PPA president Kahfa Bengia in a statement on Thursday said, “decision to suspend Nyigyor was taken based on authentic proof that he was indulged in anti-party activities.”

“The PPA has suffered enough through various defections from time to time and this time it is in no mood to suffer the same. The party is left with no other alternative but to place him under suspension with immediate effect,” Bengia said.

Bengia said, the PPA in spite of being the lone regional political party in Arunachal Pradesh, has been the victim of political defections for many years and the drastic step has been taken to curtail defections of any kind prevailing in the state politics and to bolster a strong opposition bench.

“It is high time the younger generation, especially the educated youths realize the importance of having a strong regional political party in the state,” he said.

Nyigyor is the lone legislator to represent the PPA in the 60-member Arunachal Pradesh Assembly in which the BJP has 41 MLAs, the Janata Dal (United) has seven MLAs and National People’s Party (NPP) has five MLAs. The Congress has four MLAs while there are two independents MLAs in the state.

Nyigyor could not be contacted for his comments on the matter.

The JD(U) had last month issued 14-day suspension notices to three legislators of the party for ‘anti-party activities’.

Suspension notices were served to Kalaktang MLA Dorjee Wangdi Kharma, Mariyang-Geku MLA Kanggong Taku and Bomdila legislator Dongru Siongu for allegedly electing one Talam Tabo as the new legislative party leader without the knowledge of the state president and the present legislative party leader.
