Former CM Manik Sarkar said the BJP workers were attacking the democratic movements in Tripura.

BJP workers on Thursday allegedly attacked six Left party offices in Tripura during the nationwide strike called by trade unions in support of their various demands.

Left party leaders said BJP workers vandalized the headquarters of the Communist Party of India (CPI) at Krishnanagar besides the head offices of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and Socialist Unity Centre of India-C (SUCI-C) in Agartala.

The saffron party supporters also allegedly set four Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) offices in Sabroom.

“Ruling BJP supporters attacked the CITU office in Agartala and damaged the assets in the presence of the police,” CITU Tripura unit president and former minister Manik Dey told reporters.

A journalist and a CPI-M worker were also seriously injured when the BJP workers attacked them during the strike.

30-year-old journalist Sharif Ahmed was allegedly attacked by the BJP supporters at Boxanagar when he was clicking a photo of a bus station, which wore a deserted look during the shutdown.

The journalist, who sustained multiple injuries, was admitted to Boxanagar primary health centre.

CPI (M) activist Ripon Mia was also injured when he was attacked by saffron party workers inside a hotel.

Sources said a group of BJP workers barged into the Sonargaon hotel and attacked him.

However, nobody has been arrested so far in connection with the incidents.

After visiting the party offices, former chief minister Manik Sarkar said the BJP-led government at the centre was destroying the country and their workers were attacking the democratic movements and national party offices in Tripura.
