Modi and Hasina

Four MoUs are likely to be signed during the upcoming virtual meeting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with her Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi in the third week of December.

However, the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are yet to be finalized.

“It is likely that as many as four MoUs would be signed during the virtual meet … but the MoUs are yet to be finalized,” a media report quoted Bangladesh foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen as saying on Monday.

According to the report, the Prime Ministers of the two neighbouring countries may inaugurate some projects that have been completed under the Indian Line of Credit (LoC).

The virtual meeting is likely to take place either on December 16 or 17.

Before the PM-level talks, Bangladesh foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen will visit New Delhi to finalise the agendas of the meeting, foreign minister Momen said.

Momen said they are thankful to India that the Prime Minister of the neighbouring country will talk to the Bangladesh Prime Minister during “our victory month as our victory is India’s victory as well”.

Ahead of the foreign ministerial level 6th Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) meeting in September, minister Momen had hinted about signing of some bilateral agreements during the next meeting of the two PMs.

Modi was scheduled to visit Bangladesh this year to join the birth centenary celebration of ‘Father of the Nation’ Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman but the tour was cancelled due to Covid19 pandemic.
