Hojai Police rescued a 19-year-old girl from Dayang Mukh in Karbi Anglong district on Tuesday evening.
Sources said the girl, a resident of Siliguri Basti in Hojai, was in love with one Ajay Biswas, a resident of Haflong.
On November 2, Ajay eloped with the girl from the Hojai Girls’ College to Dayang Mukh in Karbi Anglong district in the pretext of marrying her.
As the girl didn’t return home till evening, fear gripped the family members of the girl.
The uncle of the girl lodged a missing complaint with the Hojai Police and urged the police to find out the girl and accordingly, the police began a search operation.
Talking to reporters, the officer-in-charge of Hojai police station, Gautam Kumar on Wednesday said, “During the search operation, we came to know that the boy, Ajay Biswas, impersonated his original identity to lure the girl, who fell in love with him. But actually, he is Azizur Rahman.”
“The boy has been arrested and the girl was rescued from a house in Dayang Mukh on Tuesday evening. Police have registered a case (no.782/20) under Section 366 of the Indian Penal Code” he added.
