Assam police has busted an illegal narcotics racket at Naharkatia in Dibrugarh district.

Police said acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Dibrugarh and Naharkatia police launched a search operation at Naharkatia on Saturday.

During the search operation, the police team seized an LPG cylinder truck and recovered heroin worth more than Rs 5 lakh.

Police also arrested two suspected drug smugglers in this connection.

According to reports, the police team chased the truck from Dibrugarh after receiving an instruction from Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police Prateek Thube.

He reportedly got the tip-off from a source in Dimapur.

After a long chase, a police team from Naharkatia Police Station along with the team of Dibrugarh police managed to seize the vehicle.

The police recovered approximately 33 grams of heroin from the peddlers.

The police registered a case in this regard and arrested driver Satyajit Moran and helper of the truck Prahlad Borah.
