Assam urban development minister Pijush Hazarika inaugurated the pipe water supply project at Mangadai, the district headquarters of Darrang.

The water supply project took 8 years to be completed after the laying of the foundation.

Keeping an eye on the ensuing state Assembly elections, the ruling BJP has made efforts to claim all credit of their government with ceremonial launching of the developmental projects as much as possible.

The BJP-led government is reportedly working in a war-footing manner to complete the pending projects, some of which were started by the previous Congress government.

Assam minister of state (Independent) of the urban development department, Pijush Hazarika, on Thursday evening ceremonially inaugurated the Mangaldai town pipe water supply scheme.

The estimated cost of the scheme under central NLCPR programme was Rs 1,261 lakh.

It was inaugurated in presence of Mangaldai Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia, Mangaldai MLA Gurujyoti Das, deputy commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah and senior officials of the implementing agency Assam Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board among others.

The project constructed at Gerimari with more than three million litres capacity overhead water reservoir targeting connection for 5,000 households through 38,000 meter long pipelines.

The foundation stone of the project was laid by then PWD & urban development minister Ajanta Neog in February 2012.

In his inaugural speech, minister Hazarika admitted that it took a long time for completion of the project and their government has completed many such projects, which remained half done even since 1998.
